History & Heritage
The reason Vazhakulam is called the "city of pineapple" is that the pineapples grown by the local farmers are regarded as the sweetest in all of India. The fruit is slightly conical in shape, has appealing aroma, and its "eyes" are set deep. The juice is delicious, and the meat is brilliant yellow and crunchy.
On January 2, 1995, the Pineapple Research Station at Vazhakulam was founded to assist pineapple growers with their research and development needs.
